What is On-Demand PrEP?

     On-Demand PrEP refers to taking PrEP medication only when planning to engage in risky sexual activity. The regimen includes taking 2 pills between 2 to 24 hours before the anticipated exposure, followed by 1 pill every 24 hours thereafter. The final pill is taken 48 hours after the last exposure.

What are the limitations of On-Demand PrEP?

  1. Research supports the efficacy of HIV prevention specifically in men who have sex with men. For female or transgender individuals, PrEP should be taken using the standard method.

  2. It is not recommended for individuals infected with hepatitis B virus, as starting and stopping medication may activate the virus in the body, potentially leading to hepatitis flare-ups.

  3. Accurate planning and scheduling of medication intake are necessary, making it unsuitable for individuals at frequent risk or uncertain about their ability to take the medication correctly.

ใครควรกินยาเพร็พ (PrEP)

  4. ผู้ใช้ยาเสพติดฉีดเข้าเส้นเลือด: เนื่องจากการใช้เข็มฉีดยาร่วมกันเพิ่มโอกาสเสี่ยงในการติดเชื้อเอชไอวี

     ไม่ได้  ผู้ที่จะเริ่มยาเพร็พต้องพบแพทย์ เนื่องจากต้องตรวจการติดเชื้อ HIV และโรคทางเพศสัมพันธ์อื่น ๆ การทำงานของตับและไต ประเมินสุขภาพและโรคประจำตัว เพื่อสั่งยาเพร็พที่เหมาะสม ในผู้รับยาเพร็พต่อเนื่องแพทย์จะนัดตรวจติดตามทุก 3 เดือน

ผลข้างเคียงของยาเพร็พ

     บางคนอาจมีอาการคลื่นไส้ ซึ่งจะหายไปได้เอง อาจมีมวลกระดูกบางหรือมีการทำงานของไตผิดปกติ ซึ่งบางส่วนจะหายได้เองหลังหยุดยา ก่อนรับยาจึงแนะนำให้ปรึกษาแพทย์เพื่อตรวจการทำงานของไต และตรวจเลือดติดตามหากรับยาต่อเนื่อง

  3. ต้องมีการวางแผนและคำนวณวันเวลาในการกินยาอย่างแม่นยำ จึงไม่เหมาะกับผู้ที่มีความเสี่ยงบ่อย หรือไม่มั่นใจว่าจะกินยาได้อย่างถูกต้อง
